Garden Update - 6.23.11

I feel like I am repeating myself, but we had hail again this past Sunday and I am kind of disheartened with my little garden.  I feel bad for farmers whose livelihood depends on the weather and their crops.  A round of hail can do a lot of damage.

But it isn't that bad.  I am hoping my peppers and tomatoes will still hold out and come through for me.

I finally bought some more herbs.  My seed company didn't have any of the basil I wanted so I bought some basil, lemon thyme (it smells heavenly) and parsley.

My out of control flower pot

Nasturtiums are blooming - I grew these from seeds

Tomato plants are still growing

Sad little pepper plant chopped up by the second round of hail

Had to replant some of my red onions as they were growing too close together

Pumpkin vines are blossoming
And that is all the excitement that is going on.  I have gotten a few blueberries but the ants have eaten more than we have.

How is your garden doing?

  1. Your pumpkin blossoms look cute...beware of the dreaded squash bugs though! Everytime we have pumpkins, watermelons, or anything like that, they get demolished by those pests! Our garden is doing well, I don't think we've had quite the hail you've had. The kids are enjoying the sugar snap peas, and we've had lots of salads with the lettuce and spinach. Homegrown food is the best.

  2. We had some hail damage, too, to the garden. I think a few things were lost. Yours still looks great.

  3. Sarah,
I know I haven't done squash in two years because of those awful squash bugs. I planted nasturtiums around them to keep them at bay, but I thought I would try it one more time.
    Are you still getting chickens?

  4. Ma,
It is still going pretty good. At least our tomatoes are still looking hopeful and we have several pepper plants that look good.
