Have I told you the story about Heather and David?

Many years ago, I left home to attend a Christian college in a different state.  While there, I met a girl named Gwen from Florida.  We became friends.  Her older sister was also there and she had another older sister who would come second semester.  Little did I know this girl would turn out to be my bestest friend.

Her name is Heather and she loves Star Trek and sci fi and the tv show Mash.  We do not have any of those things in common, but this girl has the sweetest spirit.  She is a giver.  She is a very hard worker and she does not quit.  She loves Jesus and she is very knowledgeable about the Bible.  We became roommates after college and even though we were roommates we still were able to remain best friends.  Mostly because we were all (Gwennie lived with us too) very messy.  Thank goodness Heather and I married neat men or we might be in trouble.

In fact, we moved into our duplex and 6 months later I started dating my now-husband.  When he came over he said, "Did you guys just move".  Nope, we had boxes sitting in our living  room and kitchen that we still hadn't put away.  We were comfortable in our mess.

After Ryan and I were married I still talked to Heather often.  In fact, I had always tried to be a matchmaker with my friends.  Ryan and I (okay, maybe it was just me) kept thinking we needed to get Heather and his friend David together.

David was my husband's pastor's son.  They had grown up together and were friends.  They worked at the same place too.  David even walked Heather down the aisle at our wedding.  See - we were really trying.  But David had just broken up with his girlfriend and he wasn't really looking to date anyone.

David was over at our house almost everyday the first year we were married because he and Ryan worked out together.  One day I called up Heather and said, "Get some make up on and get over here.  David is here."  Well, that night I don't even think they even talked because we played volleyball outside while David and Ryan watched a movie.  David was oblivious.  This was going to be more difficult than I thought.

Finally, after several months, David asked Heather out.  And they were married not long after that.  Success!  We now had married friends!  Trust me, married friends are very exciting when you are newly married and among the first of your friends to be married.

Now Heather and David have been married for 9 years and have two little boys.  We love to reminisce about the days when we tried to fix them up.  I love these two.  They honestly are much more than just friends, they are family.  A side note - David's brother is married to my husband's cousin so they kind of are family anyway.

I miss them terribly since we don't live in the same state, but Heather and I talk every day.  I love that girl!

They were able to come and stay with us this past weekend and we had the BEST time.  I love having lots of people in my house.  I love controlled chaos.  I will leave you with pictures from our weekend.

Such is the story of Heather and David . . .

  1. What a great story. I met my best friend shortly after I was married to my hubby and started immediately trying to find her a mate. LOL!
We (okay God) finally found her one and her husband became best friends with my husband, so in my book it couldn't have worked out any better.
That last picture is just to precious!
Have a wonderful day my friend.

  2. @The Real Me!
Very cool! I do have to agree it was God and not me and my husband who "fixed" these two up but I am so glad that He did.
