I'm in the cursive first camp - here's why
The main reason I am in the cursive first camp is because of our dealings with dyslexia. You don't have the "d" and "b" reversals in cursive. Also with cursive you are almost forced to space your words correctly. I found this great article from the Logic of English. Below is a snippet but I urge you to read the whole thing.

Very interesting. My son presents with a lot of dyslexia type issues with no diagnosis. I will have to keep this in mind.
