First we read the passage and then we decide what motions to put with the verse. We then just repeat the verse with the motions until they get it. After they have one down I add another one and we always start with the last verse they memorized and then move onto a new one. We are working on Psalm 1 right now. My daughter has so graciously decided to be our model.
Psalm 1:1
Blessed is the man
We lift our hands to the sky |
Who walks not
Two fingers walking on our hand |
In the counsel
She says "castle" instead of counsel |
Of the ungodly
We shake our finger when we say "ungodly" |
Nor stands in the path of sinners
We stand tall |
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful
We crouch down |
Psalm 1:1
Then we put our hands by our mouth and whisper the reference |
How do you have your kids memorize Scripture or how do you memorize it?
Ah, we started doing memory verses this way at home b/c a) I noticed the younger sunday school class used this method and my daughter picked it right up and b) I need serious help memorizing verses myself. We've slacked off due to vacation interruptions this summer but thanks for this post reminding me we need to keep working on it and let God write the scripture on our hearts.
ReplyDeletetake care!
@Tabitha
ReplyDeleteI do see myself being more consistent when I memorize Scripture with them. I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner because they seem to really like it.
