Make it Yourself . . . Tortillas

This week I decided to try to make my own tortillas. At first I tried to make Spinach Tortillas but I used frozen spinach and it didn't work out so well (you can see them peaking out from the bottom of the pile). But then I just made regular tortillas and they turned out wonderful. Although, I need to work on making them round as you can tell from the picture! I will also try to find a slightly healthier recipe since this one called for shortening.

You can find more "Make It Yourself" ideas here.

  2. I just made my first batch of homemade tortillas this week too! Great minds think alike. :-) My kids liked them better than store bought. I had trouble getting them round though so I just may invest in a handy dandy tortilla press. Maybe that will save on some prep time too and the kids will probably enjoy helping. We shall see...

  3. I may get a tortilla press as well now that I know how easy making tortillas are. I would like to try Annie's jalpeno tortillas, but my husband can't have hot stuff!

  5. Did not know if you saw this or not, but there was a low fat version right on that site...it uses low fat margerine instead, but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Anyway, the low fat recipe is here.

  6. Thanks for the recipe. I am going to try it. I grew up in San Diego, Ca. and now live in Massachusetts. Store brought tortilla just don't cut it. Thanks again.
