Its Not Me, Its You

facebook-break-up

I have deactivated my Facebook account, again.  It seems to be a bi-annual thing for me.  I also wish there was some way to let people know you were deactivating because I feel bad leaving a comment and saying I am because then I think people feel obligated to say “Oh no don’t go.” and things like that so the whole thing is just awkward.  And Facebook is just awkward at times anyway.  I was having to deal with drama that I would never have to deal with in real life.  And honestly, I don’t need people knowing how dumb I can be.  I mean those around me know it but that might be 20-30 people instead of 300-500 people.  I will say that a lot of the times it was encouraging.  And I enjoyed catching up on people’s lives, especially those I don’t see a lot.

As another blogger mentioned though, I started noticing that I was always thinking in terms of Facebook statuses.  This is when you know you are way to immersed.  My husband was catching on because he would always say (before I said something), “No, that would not be a good Facebook status.”   For a lot of people Facebook works and that is great for them.  Honestly, I have no problem with Facebook, it is myself on Facebook I have a problem with mostly because I have this little, minor character flaw.  I have a hard time controlling myself as far as my mouth goes.  Yep, it is true.  I am ever so slightly opinionated and that just doesn’t go well together when you can release your opinions with the touch of a button to several hundred people.

Besides, I burned my grilled cheese while I was on Facebook.  I never burn grilled cheese.  I did not get nearly as much done.  You won’t believe what I have done in the week since I have been off of it.  Again, other people can do it all and limit their time but I just couldn’t.  I will say I miss printing off some of the good coupons.  Other than that I think I’m good.  If I want to talk to someone I will just call them or text them or e-mail them.  I mean really we have 700 other ways of communicating don’t we.

And in other news,  I was going to announce my giveaway winner but blogger was being weird and deleted my post on Thursday and some comments that entered to win.  I believe I have them all, but I wanted to make sure so if you read this post, check out my giveaway and see if your’s is there and if it is not just let me know.  I will keep the giveaway open until Sunday night so you still have time to enter.  So sorry about that.

And in other, other news – I finally have my green beans planted but it is suppose to be in the high 50’s next week.   Pshaw I say!

Oh and next week I will be posting lots of grilling recipes.  Are you excited?  Well, just pretend you are.  The recipes will include a grilled pizza recipe and a grilled pineapple recipe.   And I have another easy freezer lunch  meal recipe to share too.

Last thing, have you started using Swagbucks yet?  Well, you can now earn 1,000 Swagbucks if you sign up through them with Netflix.  This combines two things I like – Swagbucks and Netflix.  We subscribe to Netflix for $7.99 a month.  We don’t have cable or satellite so we use Netflix instead.  This is for new members only though.  You get a free 1-month trial.  It is worth it.

  1. I miss your brutal facebook comments! Looking forward to your grilling recipes. I love grilled food, but I don't like to operate the grill, so looks like Josh will be doing some cooking.

  2. Interesting post...made me think. Lately, I've been thinking of joining Facebook just to get all of the freebies. Seems like there are a lot of good coupons through Facebook these days. However, after reading your post, perhaps I shouldn't.

  3. Sarah,
What brutal comments? Ha! Well, maybe you could print off some of the recipes for Josh to grill. It would get you out of the kitchen for a little while anyway.

    Lindsey,
It is a personal decision. Lots of people do fine on FB and I think you probably would. But sometimes I just don't want to know that much about the people around me. It got a little depressing.

  5. Every time I'm tempted to get a fb account, I just feel that it would be a bad idea...for me.

I spend enough time on the web as it is! :P
