Make it Yourself . . . Syrup and butter

I have made several homemade things this week. My first experiment was the homemade chocolate syrup. There were several versions of this same recipe and I chose this one. The syrup itself is good. It would be good on ice cream. My son doesn't like it in his chocolate milk, but I am fine with that since he is now drinking more "Yegular" milk (Regular milk). He used to only drink white milk, but my mother thought it was horrible that I didn't give him chocolate or strawberry milk (actually she used the world "cruel"). So ever since he hasn't wanted to drink just white milk very much. But I digress.

My next homemade venture was from Tammy's recipes. It was her brown sugar syrup which we had with our homemade blueberry whole wheat waffles. Very tasty I must say.

I had mentioned before that I made my own butter. I have been using it in recipes and on my homemade corn bread and it worked out very well. I also used the buttermilk that I got from making my butter in a couple recipes.

How about you? What things have you tried to make yourself?

  1. I'm snickering at the "cruel mom" comment. I must be one of those too. :)

Thanks for the link to my blog. I bet the chocolate syrup would be delicious on homemade ice cream. I'd love to try it sometime. Thanks! :)

    Blessings,

  2. That post just made me seriously hungry. I have made some really easy things like my own herb butter - I just chopped a ton of fresh herbs from my garden and mashed it into some nice plugra butter and formed it into a log and put it in the freezer. The other thing I have done is make my own seasonings like taco - and it was better than store bought for sure!

  3. yummy!

When my kids were switching from nursing to drinking milk..I have a hard time in getting them to drink white milk so I always offer them chocolate milk! I know it isn't the healthiest for you and all but they would drink and then I was able to eventually get them to drink white milk by switching back and forth between chocolate and white milk.

As for things that I have tried to make on my own...well the only one that I can think of is meat and veggie marinade. :)

    Thanks for sharing. :)

  4. My kids are chocolate milk junkies. I was concerened at first, so I asked the doctor about it and he said that nutrition wise, the chocolate milk has the same nutritional value as "yegular" milk and about as much sugar as a serving of fruit juice. So I don't really sweat it anymore. I only let them have it at breakfast and supper. The rest of the time they have to drink white milk or water.
As for things I make myself - I just made that laundry detergent you posted about and I LOVE IT! Thanks!

  5. I'm extraordinarily cruel. My son only gets breast milk...from the tap. :)
