This week I am breaking down one of my 2013 goal's into bite sized pieces.  For my exercise I am taking it slow and small since I have gotten out of the habit of doing consistent exercises.  Every year I say I'm going to exercise 5-6 days and then I get burnt out by week 2.  This year I am starting with this:

10 Goals for this week

It has been a month or so since I set some goals and actually wrote them down.  Today's the day to start that again.  I love linking up to Crystal's blog - Money Saving Mom.  She is always encouraging and she is always challenging each of her reader's to be more efficient and productive.

She has a new e-book out - 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life

From Crystal:

What Exactly is 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life?

21 Days to a More Disciplined Life is not going to fix all of your discipline problems in less than a month, and if I claimed I’d be able to do that, I’d be lying.
After you have finished reading this book and gone through your first 21 Days, you will have implemented one or two small changes and created a habit of discipline in one area of your life
You will also have one completed “Mega Project”. Completing your first Mega Project is so important to your continued success in creating discipline habits. It will propel you forward and motivate you like nothing else.

Now onto my goals.

This week's goals:

Mothering Goals
1. Start What's In The Bible DVD with coloring pages and flash cards.
2. Work on Word of Life quiet time consistency.

Personal Goals
3. Wake up at 7am now that I am getting more sleep at night.
4.  Memorize one verse a week consistently.

Home Management Goals
5. Keep the "one load of laundry a day" consistent.
6. Be consistent about using our Daily to do/chore charts.
7. Organize kid's school papers.
8. Work on a freezer list with to do's and grocery list.

Ministry Goals
9. Schedule a time for this week to help someone or take them a meal.
10. Write two encouraging notes this week.

I will be doing this list using my M.I.T. (most important tasks) and my daily docket.   I also have made up a chore chart/daily to do list for myself to use.  If it is written down and I can cross it off then it is more likely to get done.  I hate the have to think of what I have to do each day.

10 Goals for this Week

I am finally back into making some goals and actually accomplishing them.  After selling our house and then finding out we didn't sell our house and having baby #4, I am finally feeling like we can get into a routine again.

This week's goals:

Mothering Goals
1. Work on having the kids do their own quiet times before they leave their room in the morning.
2. Work on having the kids get their morning chores done without much help or reminders from me.

Personal Goals
3. Do 100 squats everyday (for a Facebook challenge I am doing).
4.  Memorize one verse a week consistently.

Home Management Goals
5. Keep the "one load of laundry a day" consistent.
6. Be consistent about using our Daily to do/chore charts.
7. Set up a library for the kids in the boys room and make this crate seat.
8. Make English muffin pizzas and quesadillas for the freezer for lunches.

Ministry Goals
9. Schedule a time for next week to help someone.

Spring Break Accomplishment list - new items and some accomplished ones

Last week I wrote about what I wanted to accomplish during our long spring break (we have this week and next).  I actually accomplished a few things that weren't on my list but should have been:

Curtains for our laundry room, master bedroom and boys bedroom

Just a very simple valance in our bedroom

Still need to add some details to the front and back

And here is my original list:

1.  Redo my recipe binder - split it up into a few binders and make it prettier.
2.  Make curtains for my laundry room shelves (I have had the fabric forever).
3.  Make Alphabet bean bags or stenciled Alphabet bean bags
4. Make number bean bags  (Stencils to download)
5.  Make sandpaper letters
6.  Make a few child's aprons
7.  Check into DIY Montessori
6. Make an indoor sandbox
7.  Work on some freezer cooking
8.  Think about the idea of a breakfast bar and how to implement it
9. Try out mason jar meals
10.  Try out more easy lunch ideas
11.  Make my daughter this sewing kit and work with her on it

I have made some plans with my stepmom and mamaw to help me make all those bean bags so they are coming over this week to help.

I am adding some spring cleaning to this week lists.  It isn't tough spring cleaning though and my older son wants to earn some more money so he will be helping me.  I will do a room a day:

  • Clean ceiling fan
  • Wipe down baseboards
  • Wipe down walls
  • Clean windows (if we are really ambitious otherwise that may wait until next week)
Obviously I am working on these things a little bit each day and some are very easy and some are not.

This is what I have accomplished so far.   Do you have some things you are working on during spring break?

What I Hope to Accomplish during our long spring break

With the school my son goes to we are on a calendar year that gives us 2 weeks off for spring and fall plus the week before those breaks we get a flex week where we can catch up on any lessons that we are behind on.  Since we are caught up we have an almost 3 week time frame where we don't have to do any schedule lessons.

We will still be doing calendar time and also some other learning things to help us not forget what we have learned so far.  We may even work ahead in math some but I have plans to get some sewing and other projects done.  I wanted to list them here so I have some accountability to get them finished.  I may add to the list as the week goes on but this is my starting point.

1.  Redo my recipe binder - split it up into a few binders and make it prettier.
2.  Make curtains for my laundry room shelves (I have had the fabric forever).
3.  Make Alphabet bean bags or stenciled Alphabet bean bags

From Mama Mel Loves

4. Make number bean bags  (Stencils to download)

From Crafting a Green World

5.  Make sandpaper letters

From the Moffatt Girls

6.  Make a few child's aprons
7.  Check into DIY Montessori
6. Make an indoor sandbox
7.  Work on some freezer cooking
8.  Think about the idea of a breakfast bar and how to implement it
9. Try out mason jar meals
10.  Try out more easy lunch ideas
11.  Make my daughter this sewing kit and work with her on it

If you have any more ideas for me let me know!

This Week's 10 Goals - Valentine's Week

I accomplished a few good things last week.  I didn't actually do all of the goals on my list but I did do some other things like:

Reorganized my kitchen cabinets

Organized my freezers

Last week's goals:

Mothering Goals
1. Work with my oldest on emptying the dishwasher by himself.  *I reorganized the kitchen this weekend and put all of the dishes down on his level (something recommended in Montessori circles).  This is making it easier for him to do.
2. Work on having the kids get their morning chores done without much help or reminders from me. *Still working on this but making progress

Personal Goals
3. Work on doing the 10 Minute Solutions videos on Netflix and 30 minutes of walking at least 4 days a week.
4.  Catch up on memorizing Colossians. *Still working on this, I made progress but still need to catch up.

Home Management Goals
5. Keep the "one load of laundry a day" consistent. *Um, no
6. Pack up any extra stuff in closets to get ready to sell the house.
7.Organize the school room closet. *Moving this to this week's goals.
8.Work on the paper monster that has piled up in our computer hutch.

Ministry Goals
9. Make a freezer meal to give away to someone who could use it.  *Didn't do this, but will try again this week.
10. Write two encouraging notes this week.

This week's goals:

Mothering Goals
1. Work on remembering previously memorized verses.
2. Work on having the kids get their morning chores done without much help or reminders from me.

Personal Goals
3. Work on 40 minutes of walking at least 4 days a week.
4.  Catch up on memorizing Colossians.

Home Management Goals
5. Keep the "one load of laundry a day" consistent.

6. Make curtains for the laundry room shelves.
7.Organize the school room closet.

8.  Look into making roman shades for bedroom.

Ministry Goals
9. Make a freezer meal to give away to someone who could use it.

10. Write two encouraging notes this week.

I will be doing this list using my M.I.T. (most important tasks) and my daily docket.

Two Things I am trying to be consistent about

Money Saving Mom had a little Q & A about keeping her kitchen counters cleared off and clean.  I read it a while back but it inspired me to take pretty much clean everything off of my counter and put it away.  This included my Kitchenaid mixer and you probably know how heavy those things are.

Even though my counters were pretty much cleared off it is still a constant battle to keep them that way!  My husband and I were talking about doing something to make life run smoother everyday.  He asked me what we could do to make that happen and as usual I had a list of about 100 things.

He wisely said name a couple things first.  So my top two items were to complete one load of laundry everyday - start to finish and to keep the kitchen counters cleaned after we went to bed so I woke up to a clean(er) kitchen.

I am making an effort to be consistent about these two things for at least a week and then hopefully for two and so on.

You would think that these things would be easy to accomplish but for me they are not.  I have to be intentional about putting the clean dishes away from the dishwasher so I can load it with the dirty ones.  For some reason putting away clean dishes and clean clothes are two of my most hated chores.  I don't know why.

Anyway, this is what I am doing.  It makes my day go so much more smoothly.

What are you trying to be more consistent about this year (or this month or this week)?

Three Things I do to make my week easier and 10 goals for the week

I missed a week doing my goals (or at least putting them on paper).  I am back this week.  I wanted to share with you what I have slowly started doing on Sunday nights that helps me have a better week.  I did not start this all at once.  I took one week and added one thing, then the next Sunday I added another thing until now. Here are the 3 things that help me have a smoother week.

1.  You already know about this but I pack the kid's lunch for the week even though we eat at home most of the week.  You can read more about how I do it here.

 2.  I pick out 5 outfits for the kids and put them in this hanging organizer so they can easily grab an outfit for every weekday.  I just do this after I've done their laundry so it is easy to do.  I don't do it for my littlest guy because I dress him anyway.  I try to put an outfit in each box including socks.

3.  I have started making homemade freezer breakfast sandwiches.  I usually only have to do this every other week.  You can read how I do this here.

It honestly takes less than an hour to do all three things, but it makes my week run so much more smoothly.  The kids also help out sometimes too.  It also makes me less grouchy in the morning knowing that these things are already done.  I am limiting it to three things because adding anymore makes me grouchy on Sunday nights.  And who wants a grouchy mom (or wife)?

One last thing - you already know this - I post my menu plan and then print it out and put it on the fridge this way I always know what we will be having and I can trade days around if I want to but at least I know there are 5-6 meals we can eat each week and we have all of the ingredients on hand.

Now onto some new goals so I can hopefully form new habits:

This week's goals:

Mothering Goals
1. Work on getting the kids to do their morning chores on their own quickly.
2. Work on keeping a soft voice when dealing with the children.   I had been doing well but need to keep at it.

Personal Goals
3. Work on doing the 10 Minute Solutions videos on Netflix every morning - doing at least 2 (20 minutes).  Maybe saying exactly what I should be doing will  make me do it.
4. Finish reading How We Got the Bible - I am loving this so far!

Home Management Goals
5. Make and can apple butter and apple pie filling.
6. Work on price list and refining grocery budget.
7. Work on plan for next freezer cooking - still working on this.
8. Work on Christmas list - see what else I need to buy, keep on making the ones I  need to.

Ministry Goals
9. Make a meal (or freezer meal) for someone this week and take it to them.
10. Write two encouraging notes this week, one to a missionary from our church. Have the kids also write a note or draw a picture to include.
