Better Off?

I read about this book from Money Saving Mom.  I checked it out from our local library.  Before I had a chance to pick it up my husband started reading it and so we have been taking turns reading this book for the past 3 or 4 days.  To say this book will make you think is an understatement

It is the story of a man named Eric Brende.  He and his new bride decide to see how technology affects life in general.  They move to a community less technologically advanced than most Amish.  The community has no electricity.  They gave up driving their car.  They grow their own food:)  They do this experiment for 18 months.  It is such a great story.  I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Does technology actually save us time or do we actually become slaves to technology?  There are so many great points that this book makes.  It absolutely makes you think about the way we use technology.  But more than that, it reminds us of how life was before technology and how close neighbors were and how we depended more on a community of people to get things done.

It is a wonderful story and so interesting I could not put it down (which is why I am behind on my Bible reading).

Check out Better Off:  Flipping the Switch on Technology.  It will be worth your time.

  4. I definitely want to read this. I have been defending myself to my friends (I don't text or even own an ipod and they all think I'm crazy) by saying that technology is taking over the world and is making the simple and old-fashioned way of life almost unheard of. :)
However, yesterday I wanted to know if George Hamilton, from the Beatles, was still alive and was able to find out in less than 5 seconds.
