Homemade Lemonade Slushie

I make homemade lemonade all the time.  It is really very easy.  I try to buy the organic lemon juice from Trader Joe's when I can but I do compromise and sometimes buy the lemon juice from Sam's Club (don't hate me).

Homemade Lemonade
Makes 2 quarts

1 cup of lemon juice
1 cup of sugar (can add a little less sugar)
2 quarts of water

Mix all ingredients in a pitcher.

To make the lemonade slushie:

I have a Cuisinart Ice Cream maker.  These are handy and I would recommend getting one.  You can do a lot with it.  I bought mine on sale at Bed, Bath and Beyond.  You can also make these in the blender just as easily.

Directions for the ice cream maker:
Pour lemonade into ice cream maker, turn on and allow the machine to go for 20 minutes.  Serve slushies.

Directions for a blender:
Put crushed ice in the blender until half full.  Pour lemonade in until it is about an inch from the top.  Process until slushy.

You should have some lemonade left over to pour in the glasses when it is just ice left (after the kids have sucked them dry).  You could probably add frozen strawberries to the blender too to make strawberry lemonade.
Do you make lemonade slushies?  How do you like them?

  1. YUM! Why have I never thought of that?! I have a Kitchenaid Ice Cream Maker and I may just have to break it out of the freezer to make these later!

BTW, I think you meant to write "lemon juice" instead of "lemonade" in the recipe part?

Thanks Heidi! I changed it. You HAVE to try a Coke slushie too. Just pour the Coke in and run it for about 20 minutes.

  3. Mmm yum, good idea!

Have you ever tried to make a creamy ice cream slushie? I think lemon would be fabulous but not sure if I would just sub the water for cream or.....hmmmm....

  4. Gretchen, THANK YOU so much for linking up with Healthy 2day Wednesdays last week! (I believe this was your first post you linked up????) Love the idea of making homemade slushes.... don't have the machine but bet if I put a glass in the freexer for 30 minutes to an hour the kids would like it and/or it would be great lemonade! I wanted to let you know this weeks link up is now open! See you there! :)

I wouldn't mind linking up every week but I don't think some of my recipes qualify as "healthy". I do enjoy your linky though.
