Homemade Microwave Popcorn

Remember when I told you how I bought 50 lbs. of popcorn for my food storage?  It is a lot of popcorn, but we do eat popcorn for a snack pretty much everyday so we knew we would use it.

My husband loves good old fashion popcorn on the stove, but I like the convenience of microwave popcorn.

Now I do both except the homemade microwave popcorn is so easy and so good!

Here is how I do it:
  • 1 brown paper bag
  • 1/3 cup of popcorn
  • Pat of butter or small amount of olive oil (like 1/2 tsp)

You put the popcorn in the brown bag, add the butter or oil.  Roll over the top two times and tape it.  It pops perfectly when I pop it for 2 minutes and 15 seconds.  You may just want to stay close the first time you do it to see how long it takes your microwave to pop it.

And then we add some salt and shake the bag and serve it!  This is a very healthy way to eat popcorn, but if you wanted more butter you can melt it and add it to your bowl.

There you have it - easy homemade microwave popcorn - healthy and cheap!

  1. Cool! Who would have thought that was so easy.

I'm too stingy to spring for the bags, though:)

I just popped some corn from our garden yesterday. It is smaller, but very good.

  2. who knew...and I thought they had to genetically engineer the popcorn to get it to properly pop in the microwave. You're a genious!
