Tomato sauce leather - and how to rehydrate

I have really been into dehydrating lately.  Everything is pretty much an experiment at this point.  One thing that was a success was tomato sauce leather.

I took a can of tomato sauce (obviously you could use homemade) and put it on my fruit leather tray of my dehydrator.  I dehydrated it until it was no longer sticky on top.  I peeled off the leather and cut it into strips and stored it in a jar.

Once it was dried I stored it in a glass jar in the cupboard.

To rehydrate:

Put 2 cups of water in a pot - simmer with the tomato leather pieces.

Use a whisk to stir the sauce:

We like to add seasonings and sausage:

The sauce was delicious and the leather worked out so well!  I can't wait to experiment more.  I actually learned a lot from Dehydrate 2 Store's You Tube videos.

  1. At first I wondered why I would want to do this. . Then it dawned on me! I cook for one and large cans of sauce are too much for one sitting. Voila! A way to portion a large can into several servings SAFELY! Thx!!
